Position Overview

Licensed Practical Nurse – Supplemental Workforce (ETA) – PN

Location:

Athens, Ohio

Compensation: $26.76 per hour

Schedule:

Part‑time, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift (6:30‑3:00; 2:30‑11:00; 10:45‑6:45) with weekends and holidays as needed.
Hourly position covered by OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (Chapter 560) – pay range available on OCSEA Pay Range Schedule.

Employment Type:

Established Term Appointment (ETA) – up to 10 months without guaranteed hours, shifts or assignment location.

Responsibilities
  • Support adults in a residential setting to develop independent living and social skills, including personal care, hygiene, medication management, food preparation, budgeting, and social interactions.
  • Implement personal and behavioral plans, document progress, and maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  • De‑escalate crises, model professional behavior, and transport consumers to appointments as necessary.
  • Administer oxygen, apply sterile dressings, conduct infection control, insert and manage catheters, gastrostomy tubes, suction, irrigation, and collect specimens.
  • Assist physicians with physical examinations, treatments, and laboratory tests; provide first‑aid, perform CPR, and restrain patients when needed.
  • Administer controlled and non‑controlled medications (oral, rectal, topical, injectable intramuscular and subcutaneous) and provide medication instructions to patients.
  • Maintain medication accountability records, observe, document, and report patient conditions, and prepare related reports.
  • Provide general nursing care and direct care assistance—vital signs, personal grooming, bathing, dressing, feeding, and therapeutic education as outlined in treatment plans.
  • Provide assistance and training to lower‑level direct care staff and new LPN staff; attend staff conferences, committees, interdisciplinary team meetings, and in‑service training programs.
  • Order medication and medical supplies, clean nursing station and medication room/cart, and perform clerical tasks such as answering phone and filing.
  • Ensure security of ward unit and overall cleanliness of the facility.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Practical Nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Proof of completion of an approved medication administration course; LPNs administering dialysis must possess IV therapy certification.
  • Minimum education as specified; transcripts must be submitted and verified.
  • Experience in behavioral health nursing, basic medical procedures, and medication administration.
  • Active disciplinary record and work record reviewed.
  • Strong critical thinking, cultural awareness, building trust, emotional intelligence, and confidentiality skills.
Additional Information
  • Must complete a 4‑week full‑time orientation covering all shifts and weekends.
  • May work weekend and holiday shifts; exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.
  • Training and development required to remain in classification after employment.
