Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health

Job Type: Full-Time | Nights 7:00 pm - 7:00 am; rotating weekends.

Location:

Etowah, TN.

Sign-On Bonus: $20,000 (available to qualified applicants).

We specialize in dementia with behavioral disturbances ages 50 and above. The unit is 24 beds with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:7. Patients are seen 6–7 days a week. The unit is recently renovated and attached to an Emergency Room with 24/7 physician coverage.

• Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients’ condition.
• Establish an appropriate plan of care that involves patients based on their capabilities and desires.
• Supervise and mentor nursing and support staff during assigned shifts.
• Assist in determining staffing levels and assignments based on availability, abilities, census, acuity, and patient flow.
• Provide direct patient care as needed.
• Float between staff to assist with problem‑solving.
• Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify issues affecting desired outcomes.
• Respond to complaints about patient care and manage them through established channels.
• Perform role‑specific duties such as entering orders, admissions, discharges, and coordinating transfers.
• Ensure staff has necessary equipment and supplies for safe, quality care.
• Perform plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
• Document patient care provided.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and family.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
• Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide education appropriate to age, culture, and condition.
• Act as an advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.

Education:

Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred.

Certifications and Licensure:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire or department transfer.
• Licensed Registered Nurse in Tennessee or a Compact State with Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
