Fisheries Biologist - 20061001 & 20058931; Aquatic Habitat

Position Overview

We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role as Fisheries Biologist II positions within the Division of Wildlife.

• One position (PN ) headquartered at the District 2 Headquarters, 952 Lima Avenue, Findlay, OH 45840.
• One position (PN ) headquartered at the District 4 Headquarters, 360 East State Street, Athens, OH 45701.

• Principal investigator of field surveys and research of aquatic organisms (fish, crayfish, freshwater mussels), invasive species monitoring and control, and aquatic habitat and water quality assessment.
• Participate in fish management research projects across rivers, streams, lakes, and reservoirs, covering fish age/growth, population dynamics, recruitment, mortality, exploitation, stocking strategies, and regulatory effects.
• Determine project needs, staffing, equipment, scheduling, and budgets; prepare technical reports and management recommendations; contribute to strategic, tactical, and operational planning.
• Collate biological and environmental data using statistical methods, develop and maintain computer files and analytical tools, interpret statistical outcomes, and prepare scientific reports, publications, and presentations for internal, public, and scientific meetings.
• Work with stakeholders and inter‑agency teams on aquatic organisms and habitat restoration and protection projects (species recovery, dam removal, riparian corridor protection, water quality improvements), aquatic invasive species projects, and grant‑funded initiatives; represent the division on committees.

Starting hourly pay of $28.76/hr with progressive increases over the first 5.5 years of service, culminating in an hourly rate of $38.01/hr additional benefits may include cost‑of‑living adjustments (COLA) and longevity pay supplements beginning after five years of state service.

• Completion of an undergraduate core program in fisheries science AND 24 months of training or experience in management and coordination of fisheries projects.
• OR completion of a graduate core program in biological sciences with 6 courses in fisheries science and 2 in statistics; 6 months of training or experience in fisheries project management.
• OR completion of a graduate core program in fisheries science with 6 months of training or experience in fisheries project management.
• OR 24 months of training or experience as a Fisheries Biologist I (job code 22271).
• OR equivalent qualifications as defined in the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment.
