Intermittent Transit Driver – CDL Charter Operations
Posting Number 2016390T. This position supports chartered travel services for university faculty, staff, students, and visitors and may include out‑of‑state and multi‑day travel. The driver may also support fixed route, on‑demand, accessibility and special event transportation programming.
Vehicle types include 30–55 passenger buses, 14 passenger shuttle buses, passenger vans, and sedans. Driver responsibilities include providing superior customer service, safe and efficient transport, vehicle inspections, detailing, and maintaining transportation documentation to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal laws and regulations. Driver must pass physicals, background checks, and drug/alcohol screenings.
Hiring DetailsIntermittent schedule: work as needed up to 1 000 hours per rolling 12‑month period. No guaranteed hours and no benefits associated with intermittent status.
To be considered: valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsements, and a willingness to learn scheduling software and new technologies.
Retention bonus of up to $750 may be discussed at hire.
Qualifications- Valid Class B CDL with passenger and airbrake endorsements.
- Minimum 3–5 years of driving experience, preferably with commercial vehicles.
- Knowledge of campus transportation and parking activities, safety, and training.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, customer‑focused, and ability to use scheduling software.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Physical stamina for lifting luggage and operating vehicle for extended periods.
- Transport faculty, staff, students, and visitors safely and efficiently.
- Assist with luggage loading, vehicle inspection, detailing, and documentation.
- Adhere to transportation policies and operating standards.
- Support fixed route, on‑demand, accessibility, and special event transportation when required.
- Maintain compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Work with scheduling software and adapt to new technologies.
