A one-time Retention Bonus Opportunity of $750 is available and will be discussed at time of hire.

Position will remain open until filled; however, for full consideration, apply by position closing date. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE OF HOURS AND NO BENEFITS ASSOCIATED WITH INTERMITTENT STATUS. Position should exhibit demonstrated safe driving practices, strong interpersonal communication skills and a customer-care oriented approach. Position will be required to work with scheduling software at times and should exhibit a willingness to learn new technologies.

The Transit Driver supports students, faculty/staff and visitors of Ohio University to include fixed route, on-demand, accessibility & special event transportation. May operate a variety of vehicle types including 14 passenger shuttle buses, passenger vans, and sedans. Provides superior customer service and safe, efficient transport to customers with adherence to all university, state, and federal laws and regulations. Assists with luggage loading as needed.

Performs routine vehicle inspection and vehicle detailing/cleaning activities and maintains proper transportation documentation to ensure compliance with safety and operating standards. Successful candidates will be required to successfully pass background checks, and drug/alcohol screenings during course of employment.

A valid Class D license with demonstrated safe driving record is required.

Position Profile

Monitors campus transportation and parking activities and compliance with established policies. Responsible for overseeing permit parking, parking enforcement, event transportation, business transportation, campus transit service, safety and training, and facility and operations maintenance.

Reflects most common entry point for career track. Performs a relatively small number of tasks/duties from clearly described rules and specific instructions. May supervise or oversee the work of student employees.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No formal supervisory responsibilities. May guide or mentor student employees.

No budgetary responsibility. May be responsible for validating transactions.

Resolves routine issues with guidance or standard procedures.

Independence of Action

Work under close supervision with limited decision-making authority.

Communication and Collaboration

Communicates with internal teams and customers, often with direct supervision.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily in transit vehicles operating on public roadways and throughout the university campus. The position requires extended periods of sitting and the ability to safely operate vehicle controls, passenger doors, wheelchair lift/ramp, communication equipment, and other operational equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation. Employees must be able to safely monitor traffic conditions, pedestrians, passengers, vehicle warning signals, traffic control devices, and communications, effectively communicate with passengers and dispatch personnel, and respond appropriately to changing traffic and emergency situations, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic congestion, vehicle vibrations, noise, and other outdoor environmental conditions is expected. Employees must be able to safely perform essential job duties throughout their assigned shift while maintaining the awareness necessary for the safe transportation of passengers.

Minimum Qualifications

Basic knowledge of job functions, requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Certain positions may require Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Department Transportation & Parking Pay Rate

Full salary range is $11.60 - $17.40 per hour and the target salary range is $11.60 - $14.50 per hour commensurate with education and experience.
