Starr Regional Medical Center – Charge Registered Nurse (RN), Labor & Delivery
Job Type: Full‑Time | Nights 7:00 pm–7:00 am
$20,000 Sign‑On Bonus available for qualified applicants.
The Charge Registered Nurse (RN) will coordinate nursing care, ensure staffing and provide direct patient care on the Labor & Delivery unit during night shifts. This position requires the ability to make quick, critical decisions and to mentor nursing staff in a high‑volume environment.
Responsibilities- Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient condition.
- Establishes an appropriate plan of care and involves the patient in decision making.
- Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during each shift.
- Assists in determining staffing levels and assignments based on availability, abilities, census, patient acuity and workflow.
- Provides direct patient care as needed.
- Floats between staff to assist with problem‑solving.
- Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies issues that affect desired outcomes.
- Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, managing through established channels.
- Performs role‑specific duties such as entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
- Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies for safe, quality patient care.

- Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred.
- Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must perform well in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire;
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire or upon department transfer. - Must be a licensed Registered Nurse in Tennessee or a Compact State with proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.
