It is also supported through DESE's Statewide System of Support due to underperforming status. With grades from PK-4, three substantially separate special education programs, and a faculty and staff devoted to meeting the needs of all learners, ACES is seeking a visionary and capable principal to be its next leader. The next principal of ACES will be dedicated to supporting staff through professional development and collegial conversations to improve instructional practices and student achievement outcomes.
The successful candidate will be experienced in working with families and community members to lead ACES in its journey to continuous improvement.
Job Goal:
To sustain a positive, safe and supportive culture for students and staff and provide leadership necessary to enhance the educational development of each student.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Supervises and evaluates classroom instructional practices.
2. Schedule and supervise all activities connected with Title 1.
3. Plans, organizes, and directs the implementation of all school activities.
4. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
5. Works with the Assistant Superintendent to ensure the effective implementation of the school system curriculum and
mandated assessments.
6. Establishes programs, classes, and schedules to meet student needs.
7. Maintains complete school records relating to enrollment, attendance, grading, health, etc.
8. Establishes guidelines and fosters positive incentives for student behavior.
9. Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet the specific needs of the school.
10. Understands and can implement the data decision-making process throughout the school
11. Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit
support for overall school objectives and programs; interprets and implements School Committee policies and administrative
directives; and discusses and resolves individual student problems.
12. Coordinates or supervises building support services such as maintenance, security, food services, recreational programs,
financial and accounting functions, library and counseling activities, etc.
13. Implements and supervises the school's Special Education Program in cooperation with the Director of Pupil Services,
coordinates Special Education services, and oversees the implementation of 504 and curriculum accommodation plans.
14. Receives and coordinates all referrals for special education or ELL services.
15. Evaluates teachers in the school according to the state's Educator Evaluation Standards and protocols and the terms of the
Agreement Between the Athol-Royalston School Committee and the Athol-Royalston Teachers' Association.
16. Participates in principals' meetings and such other meetings as required or appropriate.
17. Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests and monitors expenditures of funds.
18. Works collaboratively with other elementary principals, district directors, and members of the central administrative staff on district-wide planning and resolution of district-wide concerns.
19. Keeps the Superintendent informed of the school's activities and issues that may arise in the building.
20. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
21. Co-chairs School Council as required by the Education Reform Act of 1993.
22. Promotes effective instructional practices for students and teachers, including instruction for students and consultative services for teachers.
23. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Terms of Employment
Determined by the Athol-Royalston School Committee and documented in an individual contract.
Evaluation
The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with the MA Educator Evaluation Standards and protocols for Principals.
