Primary Objective:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and in conjunction with the Engineering Department, the Automation Technician develops process automation using a variety of software tools and maintains and troubleshoots automation in the plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with Maintenance Manager to develop Programmable Logic Controller and Human Interface programming for production line automation.
  • Program PLCs for a variety of applications using Rs Logix
    500, Rs Logix
    5000 and Direct soft 32.
  • Design HMI using RsView Machine Edition, Rs View
    32, Winbuild 5000 and Panel builder
    32.
  • Install and program Variable Speed drives and Servo drives.
  • Set up and maintain Device Net Network.
  • Program motion controllers.
  • Design and lay out electrical panels.
  • Support Cognex Vision Systems for production quality assurance.
  • Update and maintain electronics on existing equipment.
  • Strictly adhere to the Company and plant safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist line mechanics with die changes, electrical problems, and mechanical problems on the production lines.
  • Build new equipment, electrical or mechanical.
  • Consult with Engineering and the Maintenance Manager on new equipment designs.
  • Start up and program new equipment after assembly.
  • Interact with external contractors as needed.
  • Perform repairs on plant electrical components as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.

Responsibility for Work of Others

  • May be responsible for overseeing temporary employees in the absence of Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent desired.
  • Associate’s degree in electronics or other technical training preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of PLC, HMI programming experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment preferred.
  • Above average English skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must read, program and diagnose Allen Bradley PLCs and Allen Bradley Panel View HMI controls with thorough familiarity with related software.
  • Able to use software such as Winbuild, AutoCAD / Solid Works and Panel builder.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.

Physical Demands

  • Able to lift 35-50 pounds repetitively.
  • Able to stand for extended periods on concrete.
  • Will work in multiple environments from high heat to air conditioned areas and adverse outdoor weather.
  • May work in wet conditions, welding and fabrication environments, and paint spray booth areas.
