Accountants One is partnering with one of our best clients to help them hire for a key role in an Assistant Controller. This is an outstanding organization with multiple awards for company culture, and we have witnessed it ourselves over the course of multiple placements over the past 10 years
The successful candidate will be a CPA and have a strong foundation of construction or development accounting. The ideal candidate will enjoy building and developing a team while helping improve the department and the company.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Oversee job cost accounting, including budget‑to‑actual analysis and cost tracking for multiple construction projects.
- Prepare and maintain Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules and ensure accurate revenue recognition.
- Support the Controller in managing the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and external regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers to review project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Assist with audits, tax filings, and year‑end close processes.
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
- Participate in ERP system improvements and process automation initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including percentage‑of‑completion and job costing.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or similar construction ERP systems).
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
