Summer Program Counselor [Prime Time Seniors]

Salary: $16.00 per hour
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this job is to oversee Prime Time Seniors and implement social, educational and physical activities throughout the summer season. For seven weeks, we work with Atlanta residents ages 55+ to promote social, cultural and historical awareness through an activity-based curriculum. Duties include but are not limited to: working cooperatively with administration and camp staff, supervising campers, planning and implementing activities, encouraging camper participation, maintaining facilities, keeping supply inventory, providing superior customer service, attending meetings, completing reports, instructing campers in emergency procedures, abiding by organizational policy and procedures and performing other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with staff for the benefit of all camp affiliates.
- Group supervision of campers in activities and daily camp operations.
- Demonstrate paramount human relation skills when dealing with officials, administration, employees, guests, or visitors.
- Promotion and compliance of organizational policies and procedures.
- Identify and meet camper needs daily.
- Plan and implement recreational, educational, and social enrichment activities for campers.
- Familiarize yourself with camp lesson plans and implement lessons.
- Attend program/staff meetings designated by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Admittance letter into a post‑secondary program or some college attendance.
- One‑year experience working with seniors or three (3) summers.
- Must pass background checks for criminal and child protective findings.
- Must pass a drug screening.
Additional Information:
- City of Atlanta required training June 1st – June 5th, 2026.
- Summer staff will be required to work an 8‑hour shift Monday – Friday from June 8th – July 24th, 2026; vacation requests during this time will not be approved.
- All summer staff must be actively involved with campers during swim times and wear a bathing suit (one‑piece for females, swimming trunks with lining for males). Staff is not required to know how to swim or teach swim lessons.
