Job Description & How to Apply Below

JANSON, named to the Inc. 5000 (2026) as one of the fastest-growing privately held businesses, is recognized for delivering excellent service to the military customers we support both domestically and abroad.

At JANSON, design is not decoration—it is mission enablement. The environments we create help military personnel train more effectively, collaborate more efficiently, build stronger communities, and feel valued for their service. Every project is an opportunity to improve the daily experience of those who support and defend our nation.

JANSON's work is primarily with and for US military customers.

If you are starting your design career and want your work to matter to the people who use the spaces you help design, this is a place to learn the craft alongside designers who will teach it.

Position Summary

The Junior Experience Designer supports the Experience Design team across all phases of a project, from site documentation and as-built modeling through presentation materials and drawing production. Working under the direction of the Experience Designer and senior designers, the role is the team’s production engine for models, renderings, boards, and drawing sets, and is the first step on JANSON's Experience Design technical track.

We are looking for a recent graduate or early-career designer with strong fundamentals, clean technical habits, and curiosity about how environments are built. You will be given real project work from the first week and clear feedback on it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build 3D models of existing conditions from site surveys, photographs, and as-built drawings
  • Produce renderings, presentation boards, and design-review materials under direction
  • Draft and update drawing sheets, elevations, details, and schedules in Revit or AutoCAD to team standards
  • Assemble material and finish boards, maintain sample libraries, and prepare material callouts
  • Conduct precedent, product, and material research; organize findings for senior designers
  • Maintain project files, templates, and asset libraries according to JANSON's file standards
  • Attend site visits and customer meetings as assigned; take notes and document conditions
  • Support environmental graphics and way finding production (artwork setup, layout, preflight to print)
Requirements

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Environmental Design, Industrial Design, or a related discipline (or completion expected within six months)
  • 0-2 years of professional experience; internship or co-op experience counts
  • Portfolio demonstrating spatial design fundamentals, drafting ability, and 3D modeling and rendering
  • Working proficiency in Revit or AutoCAD, Sketch Up or Rhino, and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); exposure to a rendering platform such as Enscapeor Twinmotion
  • Attention to detail, organization, and willingness to learn from critique
  • Ability to travel occasionally to installations and customer sites
  • US citizenship required, with the ability to obtain and maintain access to US military installations; work supports Department of Defense contracts
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or experience in environmental graphics, exhibit design, or furniture design
  • Hands-on model-making, shop, or fabrication experience
  • Experience with photography and site documentation
Growth Path

The Junior Experience Designer is the entry rung of the Experience Design technical track. Consistent technical quality, growing independence on assigned work streams, and demonstrated design judgment establish the basis for advancement to Experience Designer, typically within two to three years.
