Overview

Life Wise high school teachers will demonstrate in-depth Bible knowledge and outstanding teaching abilities for students in grades 9-12. The ideal candidate is an active church member with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who is caring, committed and proficient in teaching.

Job Description

Initial and Ongoing Training

• Complete the Life Wise Teacher Certification Course prior to teaching
• Participate in the annual Life Wise Summit each year
• Attend at least one Teachers’ Lounge and one Life Wise Meet-Up per year
• Stay up to date on training and updates by regularly checking Life Wise email

Develop and Implement age-appropriate lesson plans

• Invest in building relationships with students and praying for them regularly
• Create and maintain a safe, organized and stimulating classroom environment through various teaching techniques and discipline that is redemptive in nature
• Prioritize student engagement

Maintain Records

• Keep accurate student attendance records
• Distribute accurate and timely assessments to meet secondary education requirements
• Maintain accurate class rosters including health concerns, special needs of students and photo permission as noted on parent permission slips
• Prepare adequate lesson plans, information and materials for a substitute teacher

Maintain the Classroom

• Establish a culture that fosters academic pursuits and a love of learning as a means to promote spiritual growth
• Maintain a clean, attractive, age appropriate and well-ordered classroom
• Know the procedures for handling emergency situations
• Purchase classroom supplies as needed using the funds provided by the program director

Community and School Interaction

• Act as a Life Wise ambassador within the community
• Attend events as available or requested by the program director
• Maintain ongoing dialogue with school personnel to stay apprised of class schedule changes and ensure student well-being
• Build relationships with volunteers and keep them apprised of schedule changes
• Submit regular updates, stories and photos to the program director
• Promote and communicate Life Wise’s religious mission in all duties and interactions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s core values and beliefs

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (required)
• Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience in either a school or church setting
• A mature personal Christian faith in agreement with the Life Wise Academy Statement of Faith
• Active participation in and commitment to a local church whose doctrine aligns with the "What We Believe" section of the Life Wise Academy Statement of Faith
