Position: Open Rank-Clinical Assistant Professor/Clinical Associate Professor of Nursing

Position Overview

The School of Nursing at Georgia State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position to serve as the Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program, beginning August 2026. The Director provides academic and clinical leadership for both the post‑baccalaureate and post‑master's DNP programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the DNP program, including curriculum oversight, accreditation, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Teach courses within the graduate DNP curriculum and mentor and advise students in academic and clinical settings.
  • Provide leadership for faculty coordination, clinical placements, and program assessment.
  • Participate in scholarly activities, service to the School and University, and engagement with the broader professional nursing community.
Required Experience
  • Clinical Assistant Professor: minimum 1‑3 years clinical practice experience as a nurse practitioner. Prior experience teaching at the graduate level is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to support student learning in clinical and academic settings, including mentorship, clinical supervision, and course coordination.
  • Clinical Associate Professor: minimum 3 years clinical practice experience as a nurse practitioner, with documented success in graduate-level teaching. Candidates are expected to demonstrate academic and clinical leadership, including student advisement, mentorship, program administration, and oversight of accreditation and regulatory compliance in advanced practice nursing programs.
Required Education
  • Clinical Assistant Professor: holds a doctoral degree in nursing (DNP preferred) and possesses a current Georgia RN license or is eligible for licensure. Candidates must also hold or be eligible for APRN licensure in Georgia and have national certification as a nurse practitioner. Prior experience teaching at the graduate level is preferred but not required.
  • Clinical Associate Professor: holds a doctoral degree in nursing (DNP preferred) and possesses a current Georgia RN license or is eligible for licensure. Candidates must also hold or be eligible for APRN licensure in Georgia and have national certification as a nurse practitioner. In addition, candidates are expected to have demonstrated success in graduate-level teaching and a track record of clinical leadership or program administration.
Preferred Qualifications /Experience

Preferred candidates will have administrative experience in academic or clinical settings and a demonstrated record of scholarship, practice innovation, or leadership within professional nursing organizations. Experience developing or implementing curricular or programmatic changes, collaborative leadership with faculty and clinical partners, and a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in nursing education and practice are highly desirable. Familiarity with strategic planning, program evaluation, and quality improvement in higher education or healthcare environments is also preferred.

It is also preferred for candidates to hold or be eligible for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in Georgia, National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP), and any additional professional certifications or credentials in nursing or advanced practice that support clinical and educational leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of nursing practice, advanced practice nursing, and DNP‑level education, along with a strong understanding of accreditation standards, regulatory compliance, and curriculum development for graduate nursing programs. They will demonstrate the ability to provide effective academic and clinical leadership, including faculty supervision and program oversight, and exhibit excellent teaching, mentoring, and student advisement skills. Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative abilities are essential for working with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
