Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the supervision and organization of the Legal Technology & Innovation department, including supervising, hiring, training, and evaluating employees.
  • Teaches classes on technology in the LAII concentration program. May teach, propose, and develop other technology or legal research courses.
  • May teach an introductory legal research course or upper-level specialized legal research course(s).
  • Participates in collection development for the Law Library.
  • Develops and maintains an extensive working knowledge of current and emerging legal technology.
  • Participates in the reference desk rotation, providing reference assistance to members of the law school community, the university community, the local bench and bar, and the general public.
  • May also give subject‑specific lectures for law and university faculty and students.
  • May supervise graduate research assistants (GRAs) as they complete library projects for the LAII and the library.
  • Attends and actively participates in College of Law events and faculty governance, including serving on faculty committees as assigned, and may serve as Faculty Advisor to law students.
  • Attends and/or presents at professional meetings, including participation at the local, regional, and national levels, as well as volunteers to serve on committees for professional organizations.
  • May engage in scholarly research and activity, including but not limited to writing or editing short articles, CALI lessons, scholarly research on topics of interest, presenting scholarly research at conferences or other professional gatherings, serving on an editorial or advisory board, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the areas of technology, emerging legal technology, and law and technology, including teaching, speaking, and/or writing on legal technology issues.
Required Education
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited school
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited school.
Preferred Qualifications /Experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in instruction and class or curricular development, particularly in legal technology.
  • Experience in programming, instruction, curricular development, or course development
  • Experience teaching legal research or other law courses
  • Experience using library-relevant technology applications, such as library management systems and Spring Share products.
  • Familiarity with Word Press, web design, and consideration of user experience (UX).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with different groups and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Five years of experience in an academic law library or higher education with progressive levels of responsibility.
