Position Overview

Georgia State University is inviting applications for a teaching‑focused tenure‑track faculty position in Economics. The role is 80% instruction, 10% service, and 10% scholarship. Faculty members provide 27-32 semester credit hours per academic year, maintain a campus presence, and support student learning in both in‑person and virtual environments.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 27-32 semester hours of instruction per academic year.
  • Support students through advising and student support activities.
  • Maintain weekly office hours and maintain a campus presence.
  • Participate in service to department, college, and university.
  • Demonstrate commitment to early undergraduate teaching and learning in a diverse academic setting.
Qualifications
  • For Instructor: minimum Master’s degree in the discipline or 18 semester (27 quarter) graduate hours of relevant coursework.
  • For Assistant Professor: required Ph.D. by appointment or previously held associate professor rank for one academic year.
  • For Associate Professor: required Ph.D. and previously held associate professor rank for one academic year.
  • College teaching experience preferred; one year as a teaching assistant acceptable.
  • Experience teaching online and using a distance learning platform.
  • Interest in high‑impact educational practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, and other pedagogical initiatives that enhance student success.
  • Experience or interest in scholarship in the discipline and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Ph.D. in the teaching field preferred for instructor and assistant professor ranks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective teaching using a variety of methods and instructional technology.
  • Ability to create a sense of belonging for a varied student population and facilitate learning in both in‑person and virtual settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, computer, and record‑keeping skills.
  • Collaboration with colleagues to achieve discipline, department, or college goals.
