The Senior Career Counselor has lead responsibility for some activities of the career counselors, including training and oversight of outreach to faculty. This position works with students individually and in groups to discern their interests, skills, and values to support career exploration and professional development. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Senior Career Counselor uses best‑practice approaches to student discernment and professional development, leading to satisfying career options.

- Support the Associate Director and assist with training for new staff, including students.
- Support development of progressive career readiness management through the planning and implementation of innovative programming using creative strategies that reach the 21st‑century student.
- Design, coordinate and implement special initiatives for professional development and specific student populations. Give classroom presentations and general workshops in person and using virtual platforms. Regularly review current offerings in student development to update and revise to address current needs.
- Serve a liaison to a Georgia State “meta‑major.” This includes developing relationships with academic advisors and faculty in that meta‑major, disseminating internship, job, event information, and encouraging liaison relationships to promote it to students.
- Assist students in making connections between career and their related academic program. Ensure that students are aware of career opportunities presented by UCS through recruiting and other career‑search activities and increase participation in UCS events. Remain aware of university events that students can participate in for pursuing career goals and networking.
- Administer and interpret career assessments, develop action plans, and choose a major.
- Prepare content related to career development and job search for UCS webpage, social media and other outlets.
- Provide consultation and assistance to liaisons in student organizations and other entities to support career development activities.
- Serve as expert for information in the Career Resource Center. Stay aware of current trends and best practices.
- Maintain detailed records. Provide data as requested. Make referrals for students requiring psychological attention.
- Hold weekly drop‑in hours. Take rotational turn on various administrative functions such as resume approvals. Be an active and engaged member of the UCS staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Hiring
Qualifications:
Master's degree and 3 years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Hiring
Qualifications:
Experience in a college or university setting;
Certified Career Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor or National Certified Counselor designation;
Higher Education Professional;
Knowledge of NACE Competencies;
Experience training professionals;
Knowledge of Strong Interest Inventory or Focus;
Knowledge of college career management software;
Knowledge of approaches to career counseling for special populations—including first‑generation and non‑traditional students.
