Purpose or role of this position at Morehouse
- Mentor-Tutors provide one-on-one academic support and mentoring to students via Zoom, with the goal of creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. Each Mentor-Tutor will work with the same student at the same time each week. However, flexibility is required to support other students in related subject areas as needed. Weekly consistency is essential, with notice required for absences: one-week notice for planned absences and 24-hour notice for emergencies.
- This Mentor-Tutor role is designed to be a transformative experience, enabling Morehouse College students to foster academic growth, strengthen youth identity, and support mental health, while empowering young people to gain confidence in who they are through compassionate mentorship and shared learning.
- Provide tutoring and mentorship, adapting to each student’s academic needs and personal growth goals.
- Build a positive, mutually beneficial relationship with the assigned student.
- Remain flexible in responding to changing schedules or student needs.

General Qualifications
- Must qualify for Federal Work-Study.
- Minimum commitment of 2 hours per week, available on Mondays and Thursdays from 6-8pm.
- Capacity to tutor students in one or more academic areas at one or more school levels (elementary, middle, and/or high).
- Access to a computer with working audio and camera or a tablet.
- Complete a 4-hour training session: 2 hours synchronous via Zoom and 2 hours self-led online.
- Trainings cover tutoring techniques, relationship-building skills, program expectations, and child safety.
- Tutoring sessions are held Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with flexible hour-long slots available at 6:00–7:00 p.m., 7:00–8:00 p.m., or both.
- Training and ongoing support will be provided.
- Spanish-speaking applicants are strongly encouraged to apply (not required).

- Skilled at explaining concepts clearly and adapting to different learning styles
- Responsible and dependable, with strong time management skills
- Interested in educational equity, youth empowerment, and mentorship
- Able to maintain confidentiality and foster positive relationships with students and families
