Early Learning Teacher Assistant (All Locations)
The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is a thought-leader and best-in-class provider in education, wellness, youth development, and community-building. We are looking for an Early Learning Teacher Assistant to join us in carrying out our mission to positively impact lives and communities across the state.
Under the direction of the Center Director and Early Head Start Lead Teacher, the Early Learning Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of a high-quality educational experience for children and families. The assistant must implement the program based on the program's goals and objectives, following YMCA, Bright from the Start licensing, and Quality Rated guidelines.
Nature And Scope
The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, at least 2 years of experience working with children younger than five, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
- Have at least 2 years of experience working with children younger than five in a state-licensed center.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
Ongoing Responsibilities
Ensure School Readiness/Academic Instruction:
- Utilize curriculum goals and objectives to develop lesson plans supporting early learning standards.
- Create activities that relate to weekly studies and extend on students’ interests and family knowledge.
- Implement family-style meals and engage children in conversation.
- Maintain compliance with the Y’s Creative Curriculum goals and objectives.
- Arrange the learning environment to support content areas and ITERS and ECERS criteria.
Empower Healthy Living/Health & Safety
- Design an environment that protects children’s health and safety at all times.
- Create an environment that prevents challenging behaviors through classroom strategies and engaging activities.
- Use positive redirection to address inappropriate behaviors.
- Provide adequate supervision of children during all activities.
- Obtain First Aid/CPR & 10-hour Health & Safety Orientation within 30 days of hire.
Assessments And Evaluations
- Maintain assessment records to meet GOLD guidelines.
- Provide updates on student development during parent/teacher conferences.
- Conduct Brigance screenings for all students within given timelines.
Family And Volunteer Engagement
- Use formal and informal strategies to become acquainted with families and learn about their culture and structure.
- Plan activities for student and teacher involvement during branch activities and events.
- Recruit volunteers and in-kind contributions to support program goals.
Professional Development
- Evaluate and improve performance based on ongoing reflection and feedback.
- Develop a staff development plan with supervision.
- Utilize planning time to develop lesson plans and support program goals.
- Commit to an agreed-upon work schedule and adjust hours as needed.
