Position Overview
University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health invites applications for an open‑rank, tenure‑track faculty position in the Department of Health Services Policy and Management (HSPM) to serve as the next PhD Program Director.
The role is a 9‑month appointment fully supported by state funds and includes a substantial start‑up package and administrative supplement. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026.
Job SummaryThe PhD Program Director will oversee all aspects of the doctoral program, ensuring high‑quality research training, curriculum development, and programmatic growth.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing or sustaining an independent, extramurally‑funded research program.
- Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the department.
- Advising and mentoring students and postdoctoral fellows.
- Providing service to the university, the profession, and the community.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in health policy, health services research, health care management, health economics, public policy, or a closely related field by the employment start date.
- For Assistant‑Professor rank: clear research agenda with high potential for extramural funding, excellence in teaching, and a minimum of three years of experience at that rank.
- For Associate or Full Professor rank: established record of securing extramural funding, publishing in high‑impact peer‑reviewed journals, impactful teaching, and years of relevant experience commensurate with rank and academic policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research and/or teaching interests in health economics, econometric methods, outcomes research, health equity, social determinants of health, or health politics and policy.
- Experience directing an academic degree program or a strong vision for a doctoral program in health services research.
