We are looking for a Project Engineer / Testing Engineer to lead product testing and certification efforts for innovative building materials. In this role, you’ll ensure our products meet industry standards and code requirements by managing in-house testing, coordinating third-party certifications, and supporting R&D initiatives. This role is on site, with the option to work either near Iowa City, Iowa or Atlanta, Georgia.
Role OverviewThis position blends hands-on testing with regulatory strategy. You’ll work across departments to develop test plans, ensure code compliance, and guide products through validation from concept to launch.
Base pay range$90,000.00/yr - $/yr
Responsibilities- Plan and execute product testing to meet internal performance goals and third-party certification requirements.
- Develop and maintain testing procedures, protocols, and documentation aligned with industry standards (ASTM, UL, ICC, etc.).
- Manage testing schedules and sample submissions to external labs and certification agencies.
- Analyze results and provide actionable feedback to R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
- Track changes in codes and standards to inform product development strategy.
- Support failure analysis and troubleshoot performance or compliance issues.
- Assist in preparing technical documentation for certifications, claims, and customer inquiries.
- Ability to work on site either near Iowa City, Iowa or Atlanta, Georgia.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in product testing, validation, or certification—ideally in construction, building products, or materials.
- Familiarity with testing standards such as ASTM, UL, and ICC-ES.
- Strong data analysis and report writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with shifting priorities.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on documentation and quality.
- Experience with construction or other exterior materials.
- Knowledge of product codes, certification processes, and regulatory agencies.
- Hands-on experience with lab testing equipment or mechanical/materials testing methods.
- Experience supporting new product development or R&D functions.
