Job Title: Area Rotating Machinery Engineer

Location: Cartersville, GA (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)

Salary Range: $160,000 – $180,000/year DOE + 10–20% Annual Bonus

Relocation: Yes

Company Vehicle: Provided

Travel: 30–40% (regional, driving 4–5 hours max to sites)

Introduction

We are seeking a highly skilled Area Rotating Machinery Engineer to support multiple industrial production facilities across the Southeast region. This role is a critical part of a growing reliability organization and will function as the technical authority for rotating machinery across 13 plants at 11 locations.

The ideal candidate has extensive hands‑on experience with high-speed rotating equipment—including large compressors, turbines, cryogenic pumps, fans, and blowers—and comes from the owner’s side of the industrial gases, chemical, refining, steel, or similar industries. This position combines technical troubleshooting, maintenance strategy, major maintenance planning, field support, and reliability leadership across a regional portfolio.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)

  • Minimum 7 years of experience, including:

    • 5+ years in an operations or engineering environment

    • Direct experience with rotating mechanical equipment

  • Demonstrated experience with high-speed rotating machinery (compressors, turbines, cryogenic pumps, etc.)

  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, etc.)

  • Strong technical, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Ability to independently manage priorities across multiple sites

  • Strong leadership in operational safety

  • Ability to travel 30–40% (60–80 nights per year)

Preferred

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience on the owner/operator side in industrial gases, chemical, refining, steel, or related industries

  • Air separation or cryogenic plant equipment familiarity

  • Experience managing contractors and OEM service teams

  • Understanding of industry codes, standards, and mechanical integrity requirements

  • Prior exposure to major maintenance planning, turnarounds, and reliability audits

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Provide technical, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for area facilities (ASU, CO?, H?, He plants)

  • Lead support for rotating machinery including compressors, turbines, pumps, blowers, fans, gearboxes, and auxiliary systems

  • Collaborate with Controls, Electrical, Planning, and National Rotating Machinery Engineers on area initiatives

  • Review and approve PMs, work instructions, maintenance procedures, and execution quality

  • Ensure standard PM content is implemented consistently across all rotating equipment

  • Review predictive maintenance data (vibration, oil analysis, thermography) and create action plans

  • Lead troubleshooting and repair of critical equipment failures, including MOC guidance, root cause analysis, and repair plans

  • Develop machinery work scopes, budgets, contractor plans, and quality plans for major maintenance and turnarounds

  • Provide field support during major maintenance activities and ensure thorough documentation and lessons learned

  • Support development of area maintenance strategies and long‑term major maintenance planning

  • Manage mechanical contractors to ensure compliance, accuracy, and quality of work

  • Conduct machinery‑related MOC reviews, equipment condition assessments, and reliability audits

  • Monitor rotating equipment history and prioritize major maintenance based on condition, performance, and obsolescence

  • Represent machinery reliability interests within proposals, commercialization efforts, and capital project execution

  • Support new plant installations and commissioning activities with the Projects Execution Team

  • Develop recommendations for repair/refurbishment of major spare parts

  • Partner with Procurement and Area Planners to identify and evaluate machinery contractors and vendors
