Patent Agent — Electrical Engineering / Computer Science

MW Talent is partnering with a nationally recognized law firm to hire a Patent Agent with an Electrical Engineering or Computer Science background. This is a mid‑level opportunity (3+ years) to join a leading Patent Prosecution group working on cutting‑edge technologies across AI, software, hardware, RF systems, and more within a law firm environment.

Preferred locations:
Atlanta, Denver, Houston, St. Louis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.

The Patent Agent will be responsible for patent preparation, prosecution, and portfolio strategy for innovative clients across software and engineering sectors. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical depth, excellent writing ability, and prior law firm experience supporting patent prosecution matters.

• Draft and prosecute patent applications for electrical engineering and software‑related technologies.
• Conduct patentability, FTO, and portfolio analyses.
• Collaborate with attorneys, engineers, and inventors to identify protectable innovations.
• Manage deadlines, filings, and USPTO communications in a fast‑paced law firm setting.
• Support strategic IP counseling across diverse clients and industries.

• Required:

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.
• USPTO Registration (Patent Agent License).
• 3+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience within a law firm.
• Strong technical writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.

Preferred:
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
Machine learning / AI / neural networks;
Radio frequency (RF) circuitry;
Hardware or communications security (encryption/decryption).

• Salary range: $110,000 - $190,000+, depending on experience.
• Discretionary annual bonus.
