Location:
Atlanta, Augusta, or Savannah, Georgia offices.
WSP is seeking an Experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our geotechnical team. The role provides geotechnical engineering assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include research, design, analysis, concept development, planning, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment.
You will generate accurate reports and documentation regarding material, installations, and construction specifications, and ensure responsibilities are delivered to industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from sites and sources such as soil/water/rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, and other geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for measurements, statistical analysis of rock and soil data, and reporting.
- Perform professional geotechnical engineering work, including subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, erosion control, slope stability, and related permitting and project requirements.
- Incorporate advanced modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality of end-users, transportation systems, and structures.
- Work independently or in cross-functional teams to execute project work, lay out installations and foundations, manage costs and materials, and ensure compliance with permits and regulatory documentation.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assessments of environmental, soil, stress-bearing, erosion, settlement, and slope factors for safety.
- Prepare data visualizations and reports (tables, charts, calculations, illustrations) for interpretation and presentation of findings.
- Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
- Contribute to technical reports and presentations to address design and construction issues.
- Conduct geotechnical studies and surveys to gather information for design or planning future needs.
- Assist in data analysis, evaluation, and interpretation from field investigations and contribute to action plans for risk mitigation.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Collaborate with engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities at Federal, State, regional, and local levels.
- Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies; exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education engineering experience with geotechnical design.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering including deep and shallow foundations, slope stability, seismic engineering, retaining wall design, earth retention, rock mechanics, settlement of compressible soils, ground improvement, dewatering, and permitting-related issues.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
- Understanding of rock and soil mechanics for investigating subsurface and geologic conditions to design and build foundations and earth structures.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements; knowledge of remediation and permitting regulations and record-keeping.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Detail-oriented, results-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
