About Position

VHB's structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public. VHB is growing its Southeastern region and is in search of a Structural Engineer - Bridge/Transportation. In this position you would serve in a technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects - from highway to pedestrian to rail - as well as mentor our structural team. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural modeling and design for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, estimates and calculation packages
  • Provide technical support to other structural engineering staff
  • Provide project management support
  • Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews
Qualifications
  • Skills & Abilities
  • Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design
  • Experience developing design reports, plans, and construction cost estimates
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and commitment to learning
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking
  • Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Open Bridge experience is a strong plus

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of bridge design experience required (LRFD)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering required; master’s degree preferred
  • EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred
  • Project experience with GDOT preferred
  • Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, GDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs
  • Strong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software (i.e. Mathcad, FB-Multi Pier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, Merlin

    DASH, Midas, GDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)
  • Model-based design experience is a strong plus:
  • Bentley Open Bridge and Open Roads
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
