LocationHybrid work schedule, 3 days per week on site at the Sargent & Lundy office in Peachtree Corners, GA.
OverviewNuclear Power is a carbon‑free energy source. Our clients are digitizing existing plants and building new nuclear facilities, including Small Modular Reactors (SMR). This role focuses on major process controls engineering projects for these initiatives.
Responsibilities- Develop and market high‑level, complex programs for nuclear power projects, including design, operational excellence, safety, maintenance, and project management.
- Direct technical decision‑making within a project team, collaborating with engineers and designers on design, modification, and analysis of new and existing power‑plant controls systems, specifically digital upgrades.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of instrumentation & controls engineering issues.
- Coordinate systems‑design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
- Perform digital systems‑design development (PLC, DCS, HSI, and networked computer systems) for nuclear plant systems, preparing functional system requirement specs, quality assessments, and critical digital reviews.
- Provide consulting‑level work for digital IoT, innovation, and strategic first‑of‑a‑kind (FOAK) projects in the nuclear industry.
- Prepare and review detailed calculations, including scaling, uncertainty, and setpoint calculations for analog and digital controls applications.
- Produce design‑input documentation for drawing production, including cable block diagrams and schematics.
- Interface with vendors and prepare / review equipment purchase specifications.
- Prepare reports and studies that present technical information clearly and concisely to meet client requirements.
- Perform independent reviews of work performed by others, including calculations and drawing preparation.
- Attend client meetings and site walk‑downs to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction.
- Support station outage activities as required.
- BS or MS in engineering from an ABET‑approved program.
- 10+ years of experience in instrumentation & controls engineering for heavy industrial plants, emphasizing integrated, detailed system design for new or replacement plants.
- Experience providing technical support to nuclear plant projects—design engineering, project planning, testing and operations, contract specifications, project oversight, and overall direction of complex nuclear projects.
- Technical knowledge of available equipment and proven pre‑engineered systems to execute system design.
- Experience serving as firm or client liaison in a support or lead engineering role (desired).
- Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
- PE license.
