What We’re Looking For

We seek a candidate who combines technical expertise with practical field experience to help maintain safe and efficient roadway operations across Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Verify compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, GDOT Design Policy Manual, and other design guides.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify existing conditions and ensure conformance between permit drawings and field installations.
  • Review access management permits (driveway and encroachment permits) for design, safety, and operational compliance.
  • Coordinate with permit applicants, local jurisdictions, and internal GDOT reviewers to clarify submittal requirements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Evaluate speed‑limit change requests through field review, data analysis, and regulatory compliance assessment.
  • Review maintenance resurfacing projects for potential pavement marking or geometric improvements and document recommended striping modifications.
  • Review and coordinate special event, parade, and film permits, ensuring temporary traffic control plans meet GDOT and MUTCD requirements.
Public and Interagency Coordination

  • Participate in field investigations and prepare documentation summarizing findings and recommended corrective actions.
  • Assist GDOT staff with miscellaneous traffic operations or maintenance‑related tasks as assigned.
  • For senior staff, provide training and mentorship to less experienced GDOT and consultant personnel on permitting, field review procedures, and compliance documentation.
Traffic Engineering and Design Support
  • Assist engineers in field portions of traffic engineering studies, including data collection and site evaluations.
  • Perform traffic data review and validation (e.g., turning‑movement counts, volume, and speed data).
  • Support the development of traffic analyses (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, or equivalent), including documentation of operational findings.
  • Contribute to drafting traffic study reports, including technical summaries, crash‑data findings, and improvement recommendations.
  • Assist in preparing traffic signal design plans, including field verification of existing equipment, intersection geometry, and utility locations.
  • Perform Micro Station drafting for signal plans, including phasing diagrams, detection layouts, pole/mast‑arm details, and power‑service notes.
  • Participate in design review and quality‑assurance activities to ensure constructability and adherence to GDOT standards.
