Job Description

As a member of this team you will contribute to CDM Smith's success by;

  • Being responsible for coordination and management of the technical content of projects including driving the technical vision of the end product, ensuring the technical accuracy of the work product, ensuring the right technical skill sets are on the project at the correct time, developing and mentoring technical project staff, managing project financials, and coordinating all aspects of the project with our clients.
  • Under general supervision, develops large scale projects primarily focused on transportation/transit designs of basic to moderate complexity to meet client project requirements.
  • Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
  • Updates design requirements as necessary.
  • Attends conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to more junior staff.
  • Reviews the work of more junior staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background in Transit andway Design preferably with clients like MARTA, GDOT and/or Georgia Municipalities.
  • Experience managing and delivering transit design projects from initiation through final design.
  • Expert level knowledge in Bentley Open Roads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ability to present in front of a large group.
  • Task leader, discipline leader, or project management experience including development of project proposals and creation of scope of work documents.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in conducting work in the following areas:
    • Developing project scope of work and fee proposals
    • Managing task or project level budgets and schedules.
    • Providing day-to-day direct oversight of transit and roadway design projects
    • Developing project design criteria, construction plans, construction specifications, and cost estimates
    • Writing technical reports
    • The candidate should be able to give directions, assign daily work, and mentor junior staff

    Skills and Abilities
    • Good communication and technical writing skills.
    • Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
    • Working knowledge of design standards (AASHTO, NACTO, etc.).
