Commissioning Project Engineer

JLL is currently seeking a dynamic individual for the role of Project Engineer, Commissioning to provide reliable, timely and efficient support to our Commissioning & Building Analytics (CBA) team. The position entails working with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization. The successful candidate will be detail‑oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and have a team‑player attitude.

Responsibilities
  • Have experience with all commissioning processes and deliverables covered in ASHRAE, CSA, and LEED commissioning requirements.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment/systems inspections, testing, and associated commissioning activities.
  • Monitor, review, and execute all facets of Commissioning related projects by providing exceptional technical and field activities. Expected to demonstrate strong technical functions throughout the design, pre‑construction, construction, and post‑construction phases of projects.
  • Liaise with team members, outside consultants, and contractors to assist in leading cross‑functional teams on various projects.
  • Understand and develop Commissioning Plans and Commissioning Specifications.
  • Jointly manage commissioning projects, developing commissioning activity schedules and sequence‑of‑work.
  • Conduct comprehensive field‑based commissioning activities, including site visits, development and approval of start‑up and test forms, as well as managing, directing, and witnessing the execution of Functional Test scripts and Integrated Systems Test scripts.
  • Perform Commissioning Design Drawing & Specification Reviews, as well as Submittal (shop drawing) reviews.
  • Chair Commissioning Meetings.
  • Have understanding of calibrated testing equipment used in the commissioning process (flow hoods, anemometers, pitot tubes, IR cameras, Power Quality Meters, various meters, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience in testing mechanical and HVAC&R systems, building management & automation systems, plumbing equipment and systems, lighting controls systems, and normal/emergency power systems.
  • Develop, track, and resolve issues using an Issues Log.
  • Understand how to develop and execute seasonal/performance tests.
  • Develop and compile project documentation into site/project‑specific Systems Manuals.
  • Develop/review/evaluate training programs for installed equipment and systems.
  • Support front‑to‑back all the project documentation requirements.
  • Perform front‑to‑back all the field activity components.
Additional Expectations
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to client sites across the USA.
  • Assist the team in meeting the demanding workload.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting & root‑cause analysis skills.
Required Qualifications
  • A recognized university technical degree or equivalent. Engineering degree is preferred.
  • Experience in the use of mechanical testing meters and equipment and analyze and report on test results including portable data loggers, air flow meters, TAB reports, etc.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant mechanical or electrical engineering and/or field‑testing.
  • Strong data management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and organize multiple project schedules.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer/PE or PMP designation is considered an asset.
  • Any combination of Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), Certified Power Quality Professional (CPMP), Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP), or Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) designations is considered an asset.
  • LEED AP certification is preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally when needed.
  • Ability to use electrical testing meters and equipment and analyze and report on test results including Power Quality Meters (PQM), thermography, NETA tests, ground tests, hi‑pot, megger, etc. is an asset.
