Key Responsibilities

The Specialist, Income Tax position is a highly skilled individual contributor. This individual will be a self-starter and will be actively involved in all aspects of federal, state, and local income tax including compliance, tax accounting, and forecasting. This role will work closely with various members from within and outside the tax department, reporting directly to Manager, Income Tax.

  • Take ownership of the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns and supporting work papers for Delta and its subsidiaries. This includes assisting with the calculation and documentation of book tax differences, fixed asset work papers, state adjustments, state apportionment, and form preparation.
  • Assist with provision and tax accounting responsibilities, including the close process and preparation of our tax footnote for SEC reporting.
  • Possess a deep understanding of accounting principles to prepare, trace, and comprehend journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Interact with the business and management to identify the tax treatment of book transactions and potential tax opportunities and risks.
  • Assist in researching and documenting technical income tax positions for compliance and planning purposes.
  • Assist in gathering documentation for federal and state tax audits.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline, improve, and automate processes.
  • Must practice safety‑conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in income tax, with at least 2 years in a large public accounting firm (preferably Big
    4) with experience in corporate income tax compliance and tax accounting.
  • Excellent analytic and problem‑solving skills.
  • Highly proficient technology skills (Alteryx, SQL, and/or Power Query – a plus).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment, be detail‑oriented, deadline‑focused, and manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • Is at least 18 years old and has authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Big 4 Consultancy and/or enterprise tax experience highly preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Corp tax experience a plus.
