Position Summary
The Director of Accounting Operations leads the day‑to‑day financial activities of the organization, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant accounting processes that support effective business decisions. This role oversees transaction processing, cost accounting, inventory accounting, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. The Director reports directly to the CFO and partners closely with the Compliance team, Business and Executive Leadership to drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and provide financial insight that supports production efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Accounting Leadership
- Manage daily accounting operations including AP, AR, General Ledger, and Cash Management.
- Oversee cost accounting and manufacturing financial processes, including standard cost updates, variance analysis, BOM and routing accuracy, and production order review.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year‑end closes.
- Maintain and oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, and annual physical inventory.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and analysis of key performance indicators.
- Ensure compliance with USGAAP and IFRS, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and support external audits, tax filings, and internal control reviews.
- Develop, implement, and monitor accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across all locations.
- Strategic & Cross‑Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain leaders to provide financial insights on production efficiency, material usage, scrap, and labor performance.
- Support capital project financial assessments and ROI analysis.
- Support M&A activities and post‑integration.
- Serve as a financial resource for operational decision‑making, cost‑reduction initiatives, and pricing strategies.
- Manage accounting controls of several companies in different ERP environments.
- Partner with IT on ERP enhancements, system automation, and reporting improvements.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing accounting team.
- Set clear performance expectations and support professional development.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, service orientation, and process excellence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment required (multi‑site preferred).
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and standard costing.
- Deep understanding of US GAAP, IFRS, and internal controls.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Net Suite, or similar).
- Ability to lead and influence cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience supporting lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Background in a high‑volume or complex production environment.
- Experience with process automation and system integrations.
