General Description

Thispositionhastheresponsibilityofconductingon-siteinspectionsalloverthe

Cityforcompliancetothe Atlanta Zoning Ordinance and other related codes.

Staff employed in this position must also conduct joint inspections with other City of Atlanta agencies for quality-of-life issues.

This position also has the responsibility of reviewing and conducting complex research for the documentation of legal non-conformingusesaswellasfortheapprovalof

Cityof Atlanta Occupational Tax Certificates .This position mustrepresentthe

Cityatpublicmeetingsandfunctionsasrequiredandmustissuecorrectionnoticesfor violations of the Atlanta Zoning Ordinance and issue court citations for violators for Municipal Court proceedings.

The incumbent must ensure that best in class
customer service is provided to both internal and external customers, and embrace, support, and promote the City’s core values, beliefs, and culture.

Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other skilled or semi-skilled workerswithresponsibilityforcompletionofassignedtasks.

Reportsto Lead Enforcement Inspector

Enforcesthezoningordinanceandotherapplicablelawsandcodesforthe Cityof Atlanta ;verifies non-conforming units, structures, uses, parking, etc. by researching from several sources.

Conductcasereviewsandgeneratestatisticalreportsforexecutivestaff,City Council,the Mayor’sOffice, inquiries regarding zoning, land use complaints and other code violations.

Preparescourtbriefsandcourtcase dispositions.

AttendBZAhearings,courthearingsandlegalmeetingswhen required.

Attend community,neighborhood,andotherengagementmeetingstoperformoutreachactivitiesto educate the public on zoning and building code related concerns/complaints.

Providesbestinclasscustomerservicewhenrespondingtotelephonecallsandofficevisitsfrom constituents.

Issuescorrectionnoticesandcitations.

Inspects,evaluates,andrendersdecisionsofcomplianceto established zoning ordinances and related building code violations.

Reviewandapprovesignpermitsinaccordancewiththezoning ordinances.

Investigates,responds,andresolvescitizen’scomplaintsinvolvingpotentialorpossiblezoningandbuilding violations.

Issue violation citations and enforce adherence to zoning ordinances and building related codes. Verifies correction of violation.

Prepares reports of investigations to include processing of violation letters. Maintainsandsubmitsaccurateandup-to-daterecordsofinspectionactivities.

Issues and “Post” notices to permits on construction sites, Stop Work Orders, Working Without Permits violations, and other violations.

Ability to learn zoning and building related codes and ordinances adopted and enforced by the City, includingcurrentlyadoptedzoningcodesandordinances;interpretandapplypertinentfederal,state,and local laws, codes and regulations.

Abilitytoconductinspectionsandinvestigationsofzoningviolationsandpreparedetailedandaccurate records for use in legal proceedings.

Abilitytoestablishandmaintaineffectiveworkingrelationshipswithassociatepersonnel,the general public, various departments and agencies.

Ability to communicate with supervisors and other staff members.

Abilitytodealdiplomaticallyinadversesituations;includingtheabilitytosecurefacts,document information, evaluate data and draw valid conclusions.

Abilitytoexplaindepartmentalprocedurestocustomerstofacilitatezoningcompliance;directs customers to appropriate divisions for requested services.

Abilityofcomprehend,interpretandapplycoderegulationsandprocedures,aswellasdepartmental policies and guidelines.
