Location and ShiftLOCATION: Emory Decatur Hospital
SHIFT: 12 PM-8:30 PM, FULL-TIME, 40 HOURS
DescriptionOperates radiologic equipment to produce radiographs (x-rays) of the body for diagnostic purposes and performs routine, portable, operating room, or fluoroscopic exams. Performs complex radiographic procedures and provides guidance to lower‑level Radiologic Technologists and students. Positions the patient, adjusts equipment to produce high quality x‑rays, and explains various procedures to the patient. Takes precautions to minimize staff and patient exposure to radiation.
Assists in training radiology staff and students, and in radiology quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and other health care team members, keeps them abreast of progress, and explains procedures to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation. Assumes patient care responsibilities for radiologic procedures, anticipates potential patient crisis, sets up procedure rooms, and performs multiple radiologic procedures within the appropriate timeframe.
Ensures patients are prepared, completes all documentation, and follows safety and radiation protection requirements. Maintains equipment, troubleshoots problems, and advises supervisors of malfunctions.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (American Heart Association).
- Minimum of one year of experience.
Required to lift objects up to 25 lbs, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform occasional to frequent standing, walking, and close eye work. Full-time duties may include handling patients, moving equipment, and other physical tasks.
Environmental FactorsExposure to blood‑borne pathogens, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals, electrical shock, hot/cold temperatures, and radiation. Personal protective equipment is required. Shift work and travel may be required.
