The Laboratory for Synthetic Immunity (LSI) is an interdisciplinary research group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory School of Medicine. Founded in 2014 by lab director Dr. Gabe Kwong, the mission of LSI is to pioneer the next wave of immunotherapies and diagnostics for serious human diseases.

We are currently seeking an exceptional individual to join our research group as a Research Technician in Atlanta, GA. The candidate will be a motivated individual with a strong desire to contribute to operations in a laboratory focused on developing solutions for early cancer detection.

This is an on‑site laboratory position at the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta, GA. Essential

Duties
  • Manage lab supplies including ordering, inventory maintenance, receiving, and storing packages.
  • Perform general lab maintenance tasks such as re‑stocking sterile consumables, cleaning and calibrating equipment, and coordinating disposal or pickup of biohazard and chemical waste.
  • Support preclinical and/or in‑vitro experiments, including pharmacology techniques and procedures in animal models of cancer (e.g., biofluid collection, injections, necropsy, tumor inoculation, imaging).
  • Provide husbandry support including breeding, genotyping, selection, and maintenance of multiple animal colonies.
  • Perform culture, characterization, and manipulation of human cancer cell lines, and run assays (ELISA, nucleic acid extraction, flow cytometry, sorting, RT‑qPCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.).
  • Perform molecular cloning, including construct purification, vector construction, nucleic acid preparation, sequencing, QC, and interpretation.
  • Produce, characterize, and titer viruses for human cell transduction and engineering.
  • Document the design, methodology, and results of experiments in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Participate in regular internal project meetings with team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • B.S. Degree in a life science discipline (Chemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, etc.) with two or more years of laboratory experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, communication, time‑management, and collaboration skills.
  • Proven experience in laboratory housekeeping procedures, including maintaining inventory and equipment, ordering supplies, preparing solutions, and maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Strong desire to learn and work in a demanding, high‑energy, hands‑on environment.
  • Wet lab experience and a broad knowledge of standard laboratory equipment.
  • Experience, or willingness to be trained, in performing small animal studies is required.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and sterile technique is a plus.
  • Proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques including cloning, mini/maxi preparations, nucleic acid extraction, gel electrophoresis, etc.
  • Experience with weighing compounds, making reagents/solutions, and sterilization.
  • Experience with multi‑flow cytometry is a plus.
