DescriptionThis role defines the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) who serves as a clinician in both inpatient and outpatient areas. Employs evidence‑based practice, department initiatives, and grows individually as a professional. Adheres to the Emory Behavioral Standards, Emory Service Culture Guidelines, provides patient‑ and family‑centered care, and consistently meets departmental/hospital quality and safety goals.
Key Responsibilities- Completes and maintains all competencies. Refers and guides others in policy use, assures equipment functions properly, takes items out of service and reports failures as needed.
- Assesses unit work and reports to supervisor/charge, anticipates needs, participates in patient round discussions, identifies alternate methods of therapy or mechanical ventilation. Competent in clinical areas as appropriate. Other duties as assigned.
- Suggests modifications to care for the patient care team, acquires resources not readily available, serves as resource for ventilator management, attends department meetings (75%), attends services and educational offerings regularly.
- Partners in product evaluation and selection, reviews policies and procedures to guide practice, attends one professional conference every two years, 10 CEUs required annually.
- Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care.
- New graduate to 2 years experience; may work independently under general direction of leader.
- Currently licensed as an active Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Georgia and registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Preferred membership in American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC).
- BLS required; ACLS required for adult critical care within 6 months of hire; NRP required for special care nursery/NICU.
Physical requirements:
Lift 20‑50 lbs occasionally, 11‑25 lbs frequently, up to 50 lbs max. Requires frequent standing & walking, occasional sitting, close eye work, and may vary by job. Environmental exposures include blood‑borne pathogens, biohazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside conditions, latex, lighting, patient care injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required. Personal protective equipment must be used.
