As an STI Epidemiologist 1 within the Division of Epidemiology at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (overall tasks and expectations of the position)
  • Support activities that bridge STI Surveillance and Prevention by conceptualizing and developing analyses to monitor effectiveness of STD prevention activities, STI testing data, and data completeness.
  • Present findings at stakeholder meetings.
  • Assists Senior STI Epidemiologist and CDC Field Epidemiologist with STI Surveillance activities including data collection and analysis.
  • Assist with obtaining data from various sources to conduct data matches with STI data (ex.

    -vital records, HIV data, etc.).
  • Assists with planning, developing and maintaining the state electronic notifiable disease surveillance system (SENDSS) to facilitate quick retrieval and manipulation of STD data.
  • Fulfill data requests with minimal supervisory support; communicate directly with requesters.
  • Run provided SAS code to generate datasets and reports.
  • Assist with updating annual reporting materials; present data to stakeholders.
  • Develop or maintain expertise in data analysis and data visualization.
  • Assists in the implementation of appropriate quality assurance processes to maintain valid and accurate epidemiological data and reviews data for errors and initiates corrective actions.
  • Analyzes data (using Excel, SAS, R, Tableau and/or ArcGIS) and assists in the creation of reports and summaries for internal and external audiences.
  • Provides technical assistance for local health districts and other users of STI surveillance data.
  • Performs various duties in support of section operations.
