Under the direction of the HR Operations Manager, the Sr. Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration and maintenance of activities relating to company payroll, benefits, and leave of absences.
As our payroll and benefits superstar, you would thrive on delivering results in a dynamic environment. This position plays a key role in maintaining data integrity, running audits and reports, and serving as a reliable resource for employee questions.
Candidates must reside in the Atlanta area to be considered for this role.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Owns end-to-end biweekly payroll process with accuracy and timeliness (50%)
- Processes multi-state payroll on a bi-weekly basis for hourly and salary employees using UKG Ready.
- Reviews and reconciles payroll registers prior to submission.
- Responsible for off-cycle payrolls, adjustments, and corrections as needed.
- Serves as primary contact for payroll tax agencies and third-party tax vendors.
- Administers and responds to garnishment notices and medical support withholding notices.
- Maintains compliance with FLSA, state and federal laws.
- Manages records such as timekeeping, salary history, and payroll data.
- Audits changes related to pay, position, and supervisor changes and ensures accurate historical data is recorded.
- Provides quarterly and adhoc payroll and workers’ compensation data to the Finance department.
- Provides employee support with all payroll related questions.
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and support month-end and year-end processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Administers benefits programs (40%)
- Supports employee fringe benefits programs by coordinating enrollment, plan changes, and terminations with various benefits carriers.
- Ensures accuracy of benefits enrollments in UKG Ready.
- Assists in the open enrollment process.
- Submits monthly bills to carriers and works with A/R to identify and correct discrepancies found on monthly benefits reconciliations.
- Assists with the administration of the company’s 401(k), processes changes related to payroll and responds to requests from the 401(k) provider.
- Assists in termination paperwork associated with conversion/portability of life insurance.
- Administers the tuition reimbursement program and wellness program and provides input for applicable budget annually.
- Provides employee support with all benefit related questions.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Processes and administers all leave of absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, STD, LTD, and FMLA (10%)
- Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
- Manages leave of absence requests for employees dispersed across various states and maintains compliance and regulatory practices for various states.
- Responds to and files necessary paperwork to ensure proper administration of Short- and Long-Term Disability payments.
Skills and Experience Needed to Be Successful
Required:
- 5+ years of experience processing multi-state payroll and benefits administration
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax compliance, and wage & hour laws
- High level of accuracy, confidentiality, attention to detail, follow through and professional judgement
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred:
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FCP)
- Experience with UKG Ready
