Job Description

The Benefits & LOA Specialist will manage a high volume of employee leave and benefits requests while providing responsive, knowledgeable support to employees, HR partners, managers, and benefit providers. The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on experience with leave administration and benefits, including ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and multi‑state employee populations.

This role is best suited for a proactive, adaptable professional who can work independently, learn quickly, and remain calm and organized while managing competing priorities and a high volume of requests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a high volume of employee leave requests across multiple states, including medical, family, personal, and workers’ compensation‑related leaves.
  • Guide employees through the leave process, including required documentation, deadlines, status updates, and return‑to‑work requirements.
  • Coordinate with leave administrators, HR partners, managers, and benefit providers to track cases and resolve outstanding items.
  • Support ADA accommodation requests by coordinating documentation, tracking the interactive process, and escalating complex cases as appropriate.
  • Assist with workers’ compensation cases, including claim documentation, carrier communication, work restrictions, and return‑to‑work coordination.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding benefits eligibility, enrollment, qualifying life events, coverage changes, and benefits during leave.
  • Research and resolve benefits discrepancies in partnership with the Benefits Manager, payroll, and benefit providers.
  • Maintain accurate leave dates, benefits changes, case notes, and supporting documentation in Workday and internal tracking systems.
  • Partner with payroll regarding leave‑related pay changes, benefit deductions, and employee status updates.
  • Monitor pending cases, follow up on missing documentation, and prioritize urgent employee inquiries within a busy shared inbox or ticket queue.
  • Prepare basic Excel reports to track active leaves, outstanding actions, and benefits‑related issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee, medical, and benefits information.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of HR support experience.
  • At least 2 years of hands‑on benefits and leave of absence experience.
  • Experience supporting ADA accommodations.
  • Workers’ compensation experience required.
  • Multi‑state HR/leave administration experience required.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Workday experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic Excel skills required.
  • Ability to thrive in an extremely busy, fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and with limited oversight.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Patient, easygoing, and adaptable approach.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when handling high volumes of work and direct communication.
