Description

As a Central Data Architect, you will play a critical role in empowering and accelerating Line of Business (LOB) data teams by providing clear, scalable, and actionable architectural guidance. Partnering closely with the Enterprise Data Architect, you will define and promote foundational data architecture patterns that enable LOB teams to move faster with confidence, while maintaining alignment with enterprise standards.

Your mission is to bridge strategic architecture with practical implementation, ensuring LOB teams can rapidly design, build, and scale cloud-native data solutions, especially Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric, without reinventing the wheel. You will act as a trusted advisor and enabler, helping federated teams adopt best practices, leverage reusable assets, and navigate architectural decisions that drive consistency, innovation, and speed across WTW’s data ecosystem.

This role is pivotal in fostering a federated data model that balances autonomy with alignment, enabling LOB teams to deliver business value faster while contributing to a cohesive enterprise data strategy.

The Role

  • Develop and maintain enterprise-wide data architecture standards, patterns, and best practices aligned with WTW’s “common as possible, distinct as necessary” philosophy.
  • Collaborate with embedded data teams to educate, guide, and support the adoption of centralized data architecture strategies.
  • Work closely with business and technical teams to provide architectural guidance on data management, data quality, metadata management, and data lineage, ensuring alignment with enterprise data principles and cloud-native design patterns.
  • Lead the creation of conceptual and reference architecture designs that support scalable, secure, and compliant data solutions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of WTW’s data platform strategy, including the use of Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, and other modern data services.
  • Support the migration of legacy on-premises data systems to cloud-native architectures.
  • Document and communicate architectural decisions, trade-offs, and implementation guidance in a clear and consumable format.
  • Assist in understanding compliance requirements with respect to data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements across all data solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and platforms to support enterprise data initiatives.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, design sessions, and governance forums to ensure architectural integrity and alignment.

Note:
Employment-based non-immigrant visa sponsorship and/or assistance is not offered for this specific job opportunity.

Qualifications

The Requirements

  • Substantial experience in data architecture and data engineering, with a strong focus on cloud-native solutions.
  • Solid experience that focused specifically in data architecture roles, ideally within large, federated organizations.
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake, SQL DB) and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Dev Ops practices, including CI/CD pipelines using Azure Dev Ops.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing scalable, secure, and performant data solutions in cloud environments.
  • Proficiency in data modeling techniques (e.g., dimensional, normalized, data vault) and the ability to apply them appropriately.
  • Working experience with modern data architecture paradigms such as Data Mesh, Data Lakehouse, and Event-Driven architecture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Strong documentation skills and a passion for sharing knowledge.
  • Familiarity with data governance, compliance, and data residency considerations.
  • WTW core competencies:
Customer Focus, Problem Solving, Action Oriented, Strategic Agility, Results Focus, and Organizing & Planning.
