Job SummaryProvides day-to-day guidance to a multidisciplinary team of engineers to design, automate, and operate our AWS cloud environments using Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and modern observability practices. Manages individual and team assignments, mentors engineers, influences technical direction, and partners across development, platform, and security teams. Ensures OEC’s cloud foundation is secure, scalable, and reliable.
Key Responsibilities & Duties- Manage and lead a cross‑disciplinary team of engineers (Dev Ops, cloud, database administration, networking, cybersecurity); set goals, coach, and provide performance assessments.
- Promote team learning & growth, support upward mobility of team members.
- Partner with Product Engineering to align infrastructure capabilities with modernized cloud‑native applications.
- Drive design, automation, and operation of AWS infrastructure using Terraform, Chef, Packer, and cloud‑native services.
- Guide migration of on‑prem workloads to AWS and modernize infrastructure with Terraform, Jenkins CI/CD, and observability (Datadog).
- Collaborate with product, development, QA, and security teams to ensure secure, reliable delivery of apps and services.
- Own technical delivery of infrastructure projects at scale—from migration to building cloud‑native foundations.
- Champion best practices in automation, observability, cloud security, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align cloud infrastructure strategy with business objectives.
- Recruit, hire new team members, build engineering culture, and ensure onboarding success.
- Partner with department leadership to manage business expenses and contribute to budgeting.
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. If you lack a degree, equivalent work experience directly related to the key responsibilities will be considered.
Experience, Skills, and Key CompetenciesMinimum of 10 years’ experience in Dev Ops, Cloud Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering, with at least 2 years of management experience leading direct reports. Must demonstrate the following:
- Leadership of diverse teams, creating an engaging and positive culture that motivates and empowers others.
- Deep understanding of well‑architected design, multi‑region redundancy, high availability, and distributed systems.
- Strong expertise in AWS services (ECS, RDS, Lambda, Aurora, S3, VPC, IAM, etc.).
- Proficiency with CI/CD platforms (Git Hub Actions, Git Lab CI, Jenkins, or similar).
- Knowledge of observability tools (Datadog, Dynatrace, Grafana/Prometheus, Open Telemetry).
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, Power Shell).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Strategic planning balanced with hands‑on execution.
- Business judgement and critical thinking to solve diverse challenges.
- Ability to manage at a tactical level with direct reports and at a strategic level with leadership.
- Interpersonal skills that promote teamwork and collaboration.
