Position Overview
Police Officer III with Georgia State University Police Department, a professional campus-based policing force serving the university community across six Atlanta metro campuses. The Department is accredited by CALEA, IACLEA, and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.

- Patrol campus areas on foot or by motorized vehicle; issue citations and warnings.
- Direct traffic and enforce traffic laws and regulations.
- Maintain watch over buildings and grounds, and check doors and windows.
- Observe and investigate suspicious actions or people, and dangerous or defective conditions.
- Report and investigate accidents, vandalism, thefts, and fire. Assist in locating lost or stolen property.
- Give directions and other information to the public as requested; maintain records of accidents and investigations.
- Give warnings and issue tickets to the public; advise students, faculty, and staff on campus regulations.
- Investigate traffic accidents, question drivers and witnesses, and assist injured; record pertinent data describing scenes and circumstances.
- Perform specialized police work in protecting life and property, preventing violations, enforcing laws and regulations on university property, and apprehending violators within police jurisdiction.
- Minimum: High school diploma or GED and three years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer under POST.
- Preferred: Knowledge of standard police practices and procedures; knowledge of GSU campus and its traffic patterns; knowledge of first aid and fire prevention techniques; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to conduct investigations and prepare reports; ability to enforce campus regulations.
