What You Will Do:
- Effectively conduct the annual audits and yearly inventory of the Property/Evidence function in accordance with State Certification.
- Responsible for receipt, proper storage, and securing of all property and evidence that was seized or collected for custody purposes from members of the GSUPD.
- Receive, maintain and release custody of evidence and property.
- Ensure all property and evidence are preserved, accounted for and recorded according to local, state, and federal regulations and laws.
- Process crime scenes for the Police Department.
- Collecting and processing physical evidence; photographing crime scene; lifting, processing, classifying and identifying fingerprints; testifying in court.
- Compiling reports and maintaining and updating records for proper documentation.
- Photographs and/or video tapes crime scenes, persons and property.
- Collects physical evidence, lifts fingerprints using powders and chemicals.
- Works with officers to teach proper techniques on packaging and logging of evidence and correctly entering data into the property and evidence module.
This position may require 24 hours on call assignments, overtime, working weekends, holidays.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and one year administrative experience, or a high school diploma or GED and five years administrative experience, or a combination of education and related experience.
- P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified as a Crime Scene Technician or obtain within one year of employment.
- P.O.S.T certified as a Latent Print Examiner including AFIS training and experience or obtain within one year of employment.
- Experience in analyzing and retrieving latent prints.
- Digital photography and video experience.
- Experience working with a police agency.
- Skilled in managing time wisely;
Skilled in effectively communicating and interacting with supervisors, coworkers, members of the general public.
