Job Summary

The Air Import Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the air import department. The manager will evaluate current processes and make adjustments and improvements as needed to ensure operations is aligned with corporate goals, quality of service and branch level KPIs are achieved.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership role in taking operational responsibility from order to final delivery.
  • Present a high focus on cost management and profit enhancement.
  • Supervise the air import operation and foster efficiency gains.
  • Manage the AI Ops team with an autonomous spirit while clearly defining goals for individual staff.
  • Ensure AI team meets established KPIs and customer service expectations.
  • Manage air pricing with overseas offices/agents to effectively negotiate competitive rates for EMO clients.
  • Liaison with overseas offices and partners on routed transactions.
  • Negotiate with main carriers and local truckers to improve margins while maintaining a high level of service.
  • Daily involvement with key account management.
  • Strongly support Branch sales team with the customer experience being the top priority.
  • Take ownership and lead major RFQs.
  • Cultivate our next generation employees with an open‑minded attitude for change.
  • Ensure all management reports are timely, including distribution to staff for efficiency and file completion.
  • Ensure timely accounting functions as required, including CAS, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Ensure operational KPIs are met for file rating and invoicing of all shipments within the company’s specified guidelines.
  • Ensure operations team follows US Customs regulations in accordance with import arrivals and recovery.
  • Provide freight quotation to clients, overseas offices, sales personnel as needed and on a timely basis.
  • Timely acknowledgement and reply of all email correspondence.
  • Timely record of and prompt rating and invoicing of all shipments within the company’s specified guidelines.
  • Ensure Track and trace milestones are met.
  • Support and maintain the Quality System by working closely with management, sales and/or operations to ensure goals and objectives are met with regard to the function(s) of this position.
  • Ensure adherence to procedures for any non‑conformance that could directly affect the success of the Quality System.
  • Potential domestic and international travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional team environment at all levels of the organization, or work independently with little or no supervision, to achieve results.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under time constraints using time management and organization skills, adjusting priorities based on workload or direction from customer or management.
  • Practical problem solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft products, with intermediate to advanced Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Highly energetic and results‑oriented.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Ten (10) years experience in freight forwarding or equivalent experience.
  • College degree or equivalent experience in freight forwarding, supply chain management, import/export, logistics and/or closely related field.
  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the US.
