SUMMARY:

The Senior Associate Director, Foundations, Corporations & Government Relations (SAD) is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for marketing new and existing programs of The Carter Center. The SAD manages fundraising, agreement negotiation, and grants management for a portfolio of domestic and international projects including both peace and health programs, with a focus on government (foreign and U.S.), foundation, international/multilateral organization, and corporate donors, as well as providing support in approaches to individuals.

Peace programing includes democracy and governance, human rights, conflict mitigation, and the rule of law. Health programming includes Neglected Tropical Diseases and health systems strengthening. The Senior Associate Director reports to the Director, Peace Development. Working with the Directors of Peace Development and Health Development, other development staff, program teams, and other staff across the Center, the Senior Associate Director develops and implements fundraising and stewardship strategies, including writing, editing, and ensuring the timely submission of compelling proposals and complex narrative and financial reports.

The Senior Associate Director is responsible for making and responding to donor inquiries, cultivating strategic partnerships, and stewarding donor relationships.

Periodic domestic and international travel and re-entry into the United States is required. Due to the travel locations, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) will be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with programs to develop new initiatives, ascertain funding needs, explore funding sources, and secure funding primarily from governments, foundations, international/multilateral organizations, corporations and individuals.
  • Assumes responsibility for achieving specific goals and objectives of selected programs and projects, including existing program commitments and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Maintains program knowledge and partners with Director to develop, track, and adjust fundraising strategies.

  • Drafts donor correspondence/proposals, researches prospects, and recommends solicitation strategies.

  • Coordinates with research staff and interns to gather donor/prospect information.

  • Researches and identifies donor prospects and recommends realistic strategies for solicitations. Gathers up-to-date information on selected donors and prospects in collaboration with the Center’s research staff and Program Development interns.
  • Donor Liaison & Representation:
    Manages donor cultivation/stewardship, including proposals, acknowledgments, reports, and correspondence. Coordinates with staff to ensure timely communication and deliverables.

  • Budget Management:
    Partners with finance/program staff to develop and monitor budgets. Tracks reporting requirements and ensures accurate, timely submissions.

  • Communications:
    Drafts and edits proposals, reports, acknowledgments, and donor materials. Provides content for publications with Communications staff.
