What

You’ll Be Doing

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides basic care to patients, performs all duties ethically, and ensures patient safety, privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. This role supports Shared Governance in nursing practice and contributes to professional development and the image of unit staff.

  • The Registered Nurse (RN) ensures that the ANA scope and standards of practice and the Code of Ethics for nurses are the foundation for nursing practice.
  • Promotes high-quality care, outcomes, nursing research, and evidence-based practice; collaborates to achieve quality outcomes.
  • Uses a patient-focused care approach to meet needs and applies a holistic view to identify patient needs.
  • Utilizes analytical and advanced assessment skills to assess a patient’s condition and apply data through the nursing process and clinical judgment to provide comprehensive care.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to plan care and prescribes interventions to attain outcomes.
  • Evaluates patient progress toward outcomes with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Safely administers medications following policy; reports errors, near misses, or adverse drug reactions promptly.
  • Prepares and maintains records of observations and care; documents clearly and completely in the appropriate forms/systems and in a timely manner per Center policy.
  • Assists with medical appointments and procedures as requested by the MD.
  • Educates and prepares patients/families for future self-management, promoting active partnership and eventual self-care expertise.
  • Serves as a clinical preceptor for new staff/students during practicums or shadowing experiences for prospective employees.
  • Ensures appropriate usage/order of supplies and proper charging.
  • Performs in alignment with Shepherd Center standards, clinical policies, and procedures.
  • Practices safety techniques per Center and departmental policies; reports injuries or safety issues promptly.
  • Participates in center-wide efforts that affect nursing practice.
  • Adheres to patient/family-centered principles using approved communication tools (OARS/AIDET).
  • Establishes professional relationships with other RNs.
  • Performs other duties as required, requested, or assigned.
Required

Minimum Education
  • Graduate of a nursing program from an accredited college or university.
Required Minimum Certification
  • BLS required.
  • Active Georgia RN license or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
Required Minimum Experience
  • Minimum one (1) year RN experience preferred.
Required Minimum Skills
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic competencies in nursing practice, patient and employee safety, infection control, performance improvement, practice innovation, professional nursing practice, standards of clinical nursing practice, and patient safety systems.
