Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is recruiting talented students through the Nurse Extern Program. As a nurse extern, you will acquire essential knowledge of the highly specialized pediatric environment and gain access to invaluable benefits, including orientation shifts with an RN, shadowing opportunities, RN mentoring check‑ins, and additional learning offerings.

• Variable options in May, June, and July 2026
• Your start date will be determined during the interview process
• This is a year‑round position; after the initial summer start you will continue working throughout the academic year

• Must have successfully completed one semester of nursing school with one clinical rotation

• Your anticipated graduation date from nursing school must be at least one year from the nurse extern program start date (May 2027 or later)

• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited school of nursing

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 30 days of employment

• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and documentation of ongoing development and training

• Transplant Stepdown Unit
• Cardiac Acute Care Unit
• Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

• Due to limited positions, we are unable to move forward with each candidate who completes a video interview

• Assists in the basic delivery of patient care as assigned by licensed professional personnel using age and developmentally appropriate standards—including vital sign assessment, patient triage, daily weights, assisting with feeds/baths/oral care, linen changes, and assisting with transports
• Utilizes and maintains department and patient care equipment as assigned
• Communicates information relating to patient care job activities, needs and responsibilities for the assigned shift to appropriate personnel; utilizes effective organization and communication skills in prioritizing, delivering, and documenting patient care, and documents the tasks/procedure/care that is provided
• Initiates and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided
• Acts as a role model for organizational and developmental skills
• Assists departmental leadership team in the development of other staff members
• Accepts responsibility for own growth, development and professional conduct
