Materials Specialist Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of materials procurement, inventory management, and distribution for projects.
  • Ensure that materials are efficiently sourced, stored, and distributed to meet project needs while adhering to safety, environmental, and sustainability standards.
  • Oversee and manage the procurement of materials required for projects, focusing on cost‑effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient inventory system for materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Implement rigorous quality control measures to inspect incoming materials for compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Efficiently allocate materials and resources to project teams, ensuring that teams have access to the necessary materials when and where they are needed.
  • Optimize resource allocation to minimize waste.
  • Promote and enforce environmental sustainability practices in materials management.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards in materials handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of material inventories, procurement activities, and distribution.
  • Prepare regular reports on materials status and usage, tracking key performance indicators.
  • Develop and enforce comprehensive safety protocols for materials handling.
  • Ensure that members are trained in safe materials management practices.
  • Manage and nurture positive relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and track supplier performance to ensure the reliability and quality of materials.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve supplier relationships.
  • Play a key role in developing and managing project budgets related to materials procurement and inventory management.
  • Monitor expenses and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Address complex issues related to materials availability, quality, or distribution and provide innovative solutions to minimize project disruptions and optimize materials‑related processes.
Materials Specialist Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in supply chain management, materials management, or a related field is preferred.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in materials procurement, inventory management, and supply chain coordination, with a strong track record of successfully managing complex projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of a wide range of materials used in construction and community service projects, including tools, equipment, and building materials.
  • Proficiency in advanced inventory control practices, including real‑time tracking, auditing, and optimizing inventory levels.
  • In‑depth knowledge of safety regulations and a strong ability to lead in enforcing safety protocols in materials management.
  • Proven ability to manage and optimize vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and consistently track supplier performance.
  • Extensive experience in developing and managing project budgets, with a focus on materials procurement and management.
  • Excellent communication skills for effectively interacting with project teams, suppliers, stakeholders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving skills for addressing complex materials‑related challenges and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Proficiency in materials management software and tools for real‑time tracking, reporting, and optimizing materials management processes.
