Research Specialist - HIV Immunology
Position:
Full‑time, entry‑level Research Specialist in the Division of Microbiology and Immunology at the Emory National Primate Research Center, Atlanta, GA.
We invite applications from candidates who wish to conduct NIH‑funded studies on HIV immunology using simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)–infected non‑human primates (NHPs) to characterize viral persistence during antiretroviral therapy (ART) and to test novel immunotherapies. The role involves a fast‑paced BSL‑2 laboratory setting and requires techniques such as tissue processing for immune cell isolation, flow cytometry, and cell culture.
Key Responsibilities- Under general supervision, perform a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
- Set up experiments as prescribed by the principal investigator.
- Participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
- Maintain records, files, and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
- Compile data and record results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
- Work with, take precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents as required.
- Perform related responsibilities as required by the principal investigator.
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Fundamental expertise in HIV/SIV immunology, animal models, and BSL‑2.
- Experience in high‑parameter flow cytometry, tissue processing, and cell culture.
- Proficiency with data visualization tools (Graph Pad Prism, Flow Jo, and/or RStudio).
- Experience with NHP experimental models.
- Background with BSL‑3 standard operating procedures.
- Work schedule to be discussed during interview.
- Laboratory environment is BSL‑2 and requires work with blood and tissues.
- Exposure to hazards or physical risks requiring basic safety precautions.
- Requires ability to bend, kneel, and/or squat.
