Senior Mycologist – Rhizocore Technologies

Rhizocore Technologies is an applied mycology company that uses fungi to accelerate forest growth. We develop cutting‑edge solutions using mycorrhizal fungi to help forests thrive, reduce reliance on artificial fertilizers, and boost soil carbon sequestration. Based at the Roslin Innovation Centre in Edinburgh, we are expanding into the United States and seeking a Senior Mycologist to lead the development of our US fungal strain library and advance our culturing techniques.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the operational and scientific foundation of our US mycology program. We are seeking an experienced mycologist with a background in taxonomy and identification, DNA barcoding, and culture work, as well as experience in the operational management of both laboratory and field teams.

• Build and manage a US fungal strain library aligned with taxonomic and geographic priorities.
• Plan and conduct fungal collection trips across diverse ecosystems in the United States and internationally.
• Apply and develop novel culturing methodologies to maximize species diversity.
• Oversee laboratory and field operations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
• Collaborate with the wider mycology team on research and data management.

Fieldwork will involve travel across the United States and occasional international trips.

• Degree (BSc/MSc/PhD) in Mycology, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience in fungal collection, identification, and culturing.
• Strong knowledge of fungal biology and genetics, including molecular techniques.
• Leadership and team management experience.
• Excellent organizational skills for planning and executing field expeditions.
• Valid U.S. driving license and willingness to travel.
• Knowledge of cryopreservation, lyophilisation, and media optimisation.
• Project and budget management skills.
• Familiarity with fungal databases and data analysis.
