Job Description
This role supports research and development activities by preparing microbiological media, maintaining bacterial cultures under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, and performing small-scale microbial fermentations. The microbiology technologist contributes to molecular biology workflows, including genomic DNA extraction and preparation of samples for 16S rRNA sequencing, while maintaining meticulous records and following strict laboratory safety and documentation standards.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare microbiological media according to established protocols to support bacterial growth and experimentation.
+ Maintain bacterial cultures under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions using appropriate aseptic techniques.
+ Revive archived microbial cultures and prepare glycerol stocks for long-term storage and future use.
+ Perform aseptic techniques consistently to prevent contamination and ensure reliable experimental results.
+ Extract genomic DNA from microbial samples and prepare samples for 16S rRNA sequencing following standard procedures.
+ Conduct small-scale microbial fermentations at shake flask level and monitor culture growth and performance.
+ Accurately document experimental work, including methods, observations, results, and any deviations from protocols.
+ Follow standard operating procedures and laboratory safety guidelines at all times to maintain a safe working environment.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional team members to support ongoing research and development projects.
+ Apply scientific rigor in experimental design, execution, and analysis, ensuring high-quality and reproducible data.
+ Identify and troubleshoot basic laboratory or experimental issues through independent problem-solving.
+ Maintain laboratory organization, including proper labeling, storage, and handling of cultures, reagents, and materials.
Essential Skills
