Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.
DescriptionThe Emory Center for Neurodegenerative Disease (CND), in partnership with the Department of Biochemistry, a basic science department within the Emory University School of Medicine, is seeking to recruit a basic and/or translational scientist for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. We seek investigators whose research applies innovative biochemical, proteomic, imaging, biophysical, or related approaches to fundamental and translational questions in neurodegenerative disease.
Outstanding candidates will be considered at the ranks of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor.
We are particularly interested in investigators developing or applying cutting-edge spatial proteomics, spatial biology, advanced imaging, mass spectrometry, and new biochemical technologies to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration. Areas of particular interest include Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), although outstanding candidates studying other neurodegenerative disorders are also encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates are expected to bring a strong mechanistic and biochemical perspective to neurodegenerative disease research. Relevant areas may include, but are not limited to, protein aggregation and proteostasis, protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions, post-translational modifications, cellular and subcellular proteomics, spatially resolved molecular profiling, biomarker and target discovery, structural biology, and the development of innovative imaging or analytical technologies. We especially welcome investigators whose work bridges fundamental biochemistry with emerging approaches for defining disease mechanisms within cells, tissues, and human biospecimens.
Investigators developing and applying human iPSC-derived cell systems and next-generation models of neurodegenerative disease, including neuronal and glial models, multicellular systems, organoids, and blood-brain barrier and neurovascular models to define disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets are strongly encouraged to apply.
Research in the Emory CND and Department of Biochemistry encompasses a broad array of mechanistic studies aimed at understanding fundamental biological processes and their relationships to human health and disease. The department provides a highly collaborative environment for neurodegenerative disease research, with opportunities for interaction across the School of Medicine and with investigators affiliated with the Emory CND, as well as programs in Neurology, Neuroscience, Human Genetics, Cell Biology, and related disciplines.
Faculty members have access to extensive state-of-the-art infrastructure for proteomics, spatial biology, advanced microscopy and imaging, structural biology, and molecular and cellular biochemistry, including mass spectrometry, cryo-EM. Additional capabilities are available through the many Emory Integrated Core Facilities. Opportunities also exist for collaborations across Emory University and with neighboring institutions, including Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia, creating a rich environment for developing and applying new technologies to neurodegenerative disease.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D. (or equivalent) and postdoctoral experience in biochemistry, neuroscience, chemical biology, biophysics, proteomics, or a closely…
